In line with the mission of Cittadellarte – to inspire and produce responsible change in society through ideas and creative projects – the VideoTale for the Promotion of the Territory opens a channel for an interaction between artistic creation and the complex socio-economic scenario of a specific territory.
Art thus establishes a connection with the landscape, the history, and the stories of the inhabitants by becoming directly involved in the search for possible cultural – glocal – development trajectories.
The VideoTale for the Promotion of the Territory concept was born in Cittadellarte in 2005 within the Residence UNIDEE - University of Ideas, thanks to two artists in residence - Aziz Ceho and Michele Fontana – who produced two video-stories to promote the territory of Biella: "Margosio - cheese&jazz" and "Mucrone".
The local institutions were enthusiastic about the idea of describing, valorizing, and interpreting, by means of a video-production, how a person or people relate to a territory, and saw it as a new, exciting means which could stimulate and increase the demand for experience-based tourism – a kind of tourism which is gradually replacing the destination-kind.
The objective to create a circuit for the production and channeling of works that talk about and promote a territory by presenting it via a video-narration of stories of people’s lives and personal experiences has led to the development of the International Festival for Territory-Promotion Video-stories.
